X Factor star Carolynne Pool |
Carolynne Poole had been full of excitement after making it to the Live X Factor shows, but her happiness was short-lived when she became the first contestant to be voted off.
The stunning 32-year-old found herself in a tense sing-off against flamboyant singer Rylan Clark, and her stunning version of Faith Hill’s There You’ll Be couldn’t be faulted, while Rylan’s shaky performance of Dreamgirls song One Night Only left a lot to be desired.
Louis Walsh struggled to choose between the pair and refused to vote, meaning that things went to a deadlock, and when it was revealed that Rylan had gained more viewer’s votes than Carolynne, Gary Barlow los his cool and stormed off stage.
Speaking to Xtra Factor hosts Caroline Flack and Olly Murs later he said: “It was a joke, an absolute joke.
“I’m so gutted for you [Caroline], that was the most unbelievable performance. Two years running we’ve lost out to joke acts. I don’t get that.
“I said to him [Louis] ‘why send it to deadlock that’s ridiculous?’ We always try and judge it on the last performance, that’s the idea.”
Carolynne had chosen to sing a country and western version of Nicky Minaj’s Starships for her first live performance, and although she was pleased with the judges’ comments, she worried that her song choice would be her downfall.
Speaking on Xtra Factor she said: “I know the UK don’t really get country music like America does so I took a risk doing a country song, but it’s what I wanted to do in my heart.
“I woke up this morning and said to Melanie [Masson], ‘I think it’s gonna be me’, but she told me not to be silly.
“I’m glad Rylan’s got a shot, he’s been given a bit of a tough time. It’s not just about the singing, it’s about the X Factor, and whether you’re a singer or not, against Rylan you’re kind of gonna get the boot.”
Although Carolynne’s dreams of X Factor success are now over, she’s glad that she had the opportunity to perform at the live shows and added: “When Gary told me I was through that was the best day ever.
